Wiltshire is a beautiful county of great diversity and much of the county is designated as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The county has many beautiful market towns, quaint villages full of character and simply stunning countryside to explore – why not walk the White Horse Trail to see the eight white horses carved into the hillsides. A trip to the Longleat Estate, home of the Marquess of Bath, is a must for any visitor for, as well as the house itself, there is also the world famous safari park, the longest maze in the world and several other attractions.
In the south of the county is the beautiful city of Salisbury which has a beautiful medieval cathedral with the highest spire in England as well as the world's oldest working clock and one of the four surviving copies of the Magna Carta. Originally the city grew up around an Iron Age hill-fort, Old Sarum, which has been inhabited by Romans, Saxons and Normans, the remains of the fort can still be seen today. To the north of the city lies one of the most famous sites in England, the World Heritage Site of Stonehenge - a prehistoric monument of unique importance. Other historic sites well worth a visit include the Avebury Stone Circles, a Late Neolithic 'Henge Monument' and West Kennet Long Barrow, the only open burial chamber in Europe.
