Dorset

Thomas Hardy loved Dorset - one of Southern England's most attractive counties. Breathtaking coastal scenery and busy seaside towns, with inland miles of open countryside and varied visitor attractions.

West Dorset towns provide a contrast in experiences...from the bustling town of Dorchester, to the attractive stone houses of Sherborne. Visit Abbotsbury and its Swannery – where if you arrive at the right time you can be witness to swan eggs hatching. There are spectacular views across Chesil Beach to Portland Bill and Weymouth nearby.  The Cerne Abbas chalk giant is well known and is a ‘must-see’ if you’re in the vicinity. There’s a warm welcome on The Jurassic Coast too, in towns like Bridport or Lyme Regis.

East Dorset has the lively resorts of Bournemouth, Poole and Christchurch to offer the holidaymaker, as well as the picturesque New Forest, with its traditional woodland, heathland and delightful ponies. Enjoy a walk around a hidden garden, the delights of a traditional village fete, or the annual Wimborne Folk Festival.

The Isle of Purbeck is a fascinating part of Dorset which takes in Poole – via a crossing on the renowned chain ferry - Studland Bay, Swanage and the edge of Worbarrow Bay to West Holme in the north east. Swanage is a traditional family seaside resort, with its beach and pedalo boats for hire, and even a Punch-and-Judy show in the summer months.
