Tate St Ives - Cornwall.

LOCAL INFORMATION

Cornwall

Cornwall has some of the finest coastline in the world and the scenery is spectacular. Sandy beaches, pretty fishing villages and bustling market towns and villages. Ancient stone circles and Celtic crosses dotting the countryside.

In the west, the harbours of Newlyn, Mevagissey, Padstow, Falmouth, Looe and Polperro still buzz as the result of the fishing industry and many smaller boats still work out of coves such as Port Isaac, Cadgwith and Mullion. The town of St Ives is known for arts and crafts, and is of course home to the Tate; while the cobbled streets of the cathedral city of Truro are perfect for a touch of retail therapy. Lands End is one of the most important and best loved landmarks in Britain. From Porthcurno Cove and the Minack theatre to the remote cliff tops of Pendeen and Zennor, Land’s End is magnificent.

Falmouth in the south is home to Cornwall's maritime heritage and its beaches and castle are infamous. The nearby Lizard Peninsula is simply unique and in many senses remains largely undiscovered. Almost surrounded by sea, the peninsula stands alone, in a very real sense, from the rest of Cornwall.
