LOCAL INFORMATION

South East England

Kent is well known for the dramatic white cliffs of Dover, the moated Leeds Castle, the city of Canterbury and Chatham’s Historic Dockyard. Visit the Isle of Thanet resorts of Margate, Broadstairs and Ramsgate, where wonderful seaside delights like donkey rides, Punch and Judy shows and traditional entertainment are the order of the day. Or enjoy the dramatic landscape of the Kent Downs Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

The interior of Kent has the grandeur of Canterbury Cathedral and rolling downland; while the coast has vibrant resort towns like Margate, Ramsgate and Folkestone or the famous White Cliffs at Dover with their spectacular views across the channel.

The glorious coastline spans more than 80 miles with sandy beaches, quiet bays, rocky inlets, white cliffs and pebble beaches. France is enticingly close too, with reasonably priced ferry and tunnel crossings making a day trip very affordable.

Part of Sussex is 1066 Country and Battle is the town with its Abbey erected on the site of Britain’s most famous skirmish. Hastings & St Leonards is a great place to discover, with a castle, a great beach and the Easthill Lift - the UK’s steepest funicular railway. The South Downs Way National Trail offers great walking opportunities and perfect landscapes. Sussex by the Sea’s 14 miles embraces the lively seaside resorts of Bognor Regis and Littlehampton.
