LOCAL INFORMATION
Cumbria Be sure to explore
charming Lakeland towns and villages, like
Ambleside at the head of Lake Windermere, William Wordsworth’s Grasmere, the cobbled streets of Hawkshead and the quirky
market town of Ulverston - renowned for its year round programme of colourful
festivals. Even the names here are familiar - Bowfell, the 'Old Man of Coniston’
and Coniston Water, the Langdale Pikes, Ullswater, Derwent Water and Lake Windermere.
The town of Kendal
lies just outside the Lake District National Park and is the southern gateway to the Lake District.
Keswick, the favourite centre for Lakeland climbers and
serious fell walkers, has been a market town since 1276 and has a fantastic
setting between Derwentwater, Blencathra and Skiddaw. The town offers a wide
range of attractions for visitors, from shops and restaurants to museums with a
difference, and boating trips around lake
Derwentwater.
Discover Lingholm and Fawe Park,
the two houses which, with their gardens and the surrounding landscape, provided
material for several of Beatrix Potter’s books.
